Job Description

A GSE Mechanic is a non-licensed person who possesses special skills which are of a value to the Company in a particular subject or field as designated by management.

The work of this mechanical classification includes the following:  troubleshooting, disassembly, checking and cleaning, repairing, replacing, testing, adjusting, assembling, installing, servicing, fabricating,  or towing any ground equipment  while in service or while undergoing overhaul and/or modification.  Certifies for quality of workmanship, including signing mechanical releases on field work.  May be assigned to order, receive, inventory, secure or disburse parts and supplies on or off airport facilities.  May have other maintenance personnel assigned to assist  in completing an assignment.  Works according to Company regulations and procedures and instructions from lead, supervisor or general manager.  Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures and will communicate with other Company personnel as required in a manner designated by the Company.

Job Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age. High-school diploma or GED preferred. Must have a minimum of two (2) years documented training and/or job experience in the areas of welding, machinery, electrical and/or pneumatics. Valid driver’s license, ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (ie. Friday, Saturday, Sunday), holidays, and days-off. Ability to read and work from diagrams as required. Paint and body experience preferred. Diesel experience required. Must possess minimum established Company tool requirements. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language and be understood by others. May be required to possess Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) depending on assignment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full time position-40 hours per week; 2 rotating shifts (3:00am-1:30pm day/1:15pm-11:45am night); overtime, weekend and holiday work are common. 

Travel:

This position requires local travel only.  

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work environment/physical requirements described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

Technicians work in the secured baggage handling areas, in repair stations, or on airfields. They often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules. 

Workers frequently bend, stoop, and reach from ladders and scaffolds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee frequently lifts and/or move items over 50 pounds with the help of team mates. They will be lifting parts and tools for extended periods of time and handling equipment such as conveyor systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts and vibration. The environment can also be loud because of aircraft engines and equipment.
